The Department of Microbial Sciences at the University of Surrey is recruiting exceptional individuals to the following full-time academic position:

Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Bioinformatics

The position will be within the Systems Biology section in the Department of Microbial Sciences, part of the School of Biosciences and Medicine in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. We are atop 10 UK University in the London area, elected as University of the year 2016 by the Times University Guide. Having astrong record in interdisciplinary research, the Faculty is committed to providing an open and creative research environment that enables groundbreaking discoveries for health and society. Areas of research excellence within the Department include bacteriology, virology and molecular & synthetic biology.  The School has further research strengths in clinical medicine and ageing, nutritional sciences, oncology and immunology.

The Department of Microbiology aims to strengthen its expertise in bioinformatics and computational biology. The successful candidate will be supported to establish an independentresearch programme in the development and/or deployment of computational approaches to exploit quantitative data to further understand biological systems. The candidate will also head the Bioinformatics facility that provides support to the Faculty. Candidates with research interests aligned with current research in the Department and wider Schoolare particularly sought. Research in the Department includes metabolic modeling and engineering, infectious diseases, basic and applied synthetic biology, RNA biology, stochastic processes analysis, data mining and machine learning.

The candidate will be expected to evidence an outstanding track record of achievement in scholarship and research, and have a clear strategy to attract and secure research funding. The candidate will also be required to contribute to teachingat both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
