Would you like to be responsible for PPIE activities at a leading research centre, including facilitation of patient involvement activities at all stages of the research process and management of the public engagement events programme? Are you experienced in developing and delivering effective PPIE activities within a research, health or higher education environment, evaluating the imapct of activities and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders? Do you have a relevant degree (or equivalent experience), excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to think strategically?

NIHR Leeds BRC is a partnership between the University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. It is a world leading centre for translational research with the aims of preventing disease and disability in immune mediated inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, and improving the treatment of osteoarthritis. Leeds BRC has been funded by NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) since 2008, and currently has funding until 2022.

PPIE activities are fundamental to the research activities of Leeds BRC. It has an active PPI group who are involved in all stages of the research process, overseen by a steering group of PPI volunteers. Public engagement activities include a series of events and public facing literature. The PPIE Manager will take lead responsibility for PPIE within Leeds BRC. This will include management of ongoing activities, implementation of a PPIE strategy to progress this work further, development of training and evaluation of PPIE activities. The PPIE Manager will also be responsible for BRC communication activities and materials for a range of audiences. The nature of the role means that there will be a requirement for occasional out of normal office hours work for participation in public engagement events.

The University of Leeds signed the manifesto for public engagement in May 2015, and is fully committed to the principles of the concordat for public engagement. The University has a public engagement team who will provide support to this role. Equally, patient and public involvement is a priority for Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
