This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and up–and-coming electronics engineering graduate with an entrepreneurial flair eager to accelerate your commercial career while applying your technical expertise gained through academic study in a real-world context. You will have a solid background in RF/Microwave measurements and Microwave simulations, with an interest in Space.

The objectives of this Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is to develop RF (Radio Frequency) test capabilities for compound semiconductor applications. Your KTP project will help position Micross Components as the European centre of excellence for advanced high-end next generation radiation hardened assembly and test of mixed signal microelectronic devices. The knowledge exchange between Micross and the University of Surrey in the areas of RF, Microwave and high-frequency measurements for semiconductor devices will be crucial for the KTP’s success.

Based at Micross Components Ltd in Norwich, you will have the confidence to manage and lead this 24-month KTP project - a collaboration between Micross Components Limited and the University of Surrey and part-funded by Innovate UK. Micross is a global provider of speciality semiconductor die/wafer processing, package assembly, test and development solutions for aerospace, defence, medical, space, and demanding or harsh environments. In Norwich, they have developed assembly and test solutions for Space qualified devices present in over 25 satellite programmes with these devices deployed in an estimated 100 payload applications. The Norwich facility currently has the capability to perform wafer level processing, packaging, electrical and environmental tests and qualification within the single site. As a KTP Associate, you will be supported by various stakeholders and will benefit from business-based training and career development, including the opportunity to gain technical and/or management qualification.  To successfully deliver your KTP project, you will be based at Micross, deepening your industry knowledge whilst working alongside top researchers at the University of Surrey’s state-of-the-art research facilities.

You will hold at least a recent Master’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Physics or a related discipline. You should be able to demonstrate a good understanding and hands-on experience in practical applications of RF and Microwave Circuits, including RF/Microwave test and measurement, and Microwave simulations or other related topics. Knowledge and past experience in microelectronics, Space or defence will be highly beneficial, as will experience in electromagnetic simulation and programming.

We require a self-starter who will perform beyond the bounds of the immediate task set and create real impact for Micross. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop a diverse range of non-technical skills, such as project management and leadership, in order to become a manager of tomorrow. Thus, you will be demonstrably pragmatic, efficient, creative, highly-proactive and able to work well on your own initiative yet have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
