Category: Academic | Faculty/Division: Faculty of the Arts, Design and Media | School: Birmingham School of Architecture and Design | Department: Birmingham School of Architecture and Design | Location: Parkside | Post Type: Part Time | Closing Date: Open until filled | We are seeking outstanding candidates to teach on the BA (Hons) architecture programme for the forthcoming academic year. The position is for a visiting tutor for Design Studio, primarily responsible for coordinating and running an undergraduate design studio group in the second or third year. We will look to you to foster a distinct approach to architectural design for the group, providing an exciting student experience with inspiring teaching and providing a creative direction to the studio. Your role will involve working with BA (Hons) Architecture students in one-to-one/group tutorials, workshop or design seminars, formal reviews and all module assessment points. Under your guidance, students are expected to develop thought-provoking, considerate, well-crafted and inspiring design outputs as part of a major design project module. The successful candidate shall work collaboratively with the year leader, director of technical studies and a dedicated technical tutor assigned to work with you as part of the design studio module. Sessions are timetabled once a week during term time and it is essential to be able to adhere to this commitment despite conflicting interests. Candidates must hold a postgraduate architecture qualification (or equivalent). A rich professional experience with technical proficiency in design, potentially across a number of creative disciplines, is desirable. Experience of teaching design in Higher Education is desirable, or if the candidate is an architect with evidence of coordinating group activities in a creative endeavour will also be considered. You should have excellent design, communication and interpersonal skills. Selected candidates should note that payment will be made directly to them and cannot be made via a practice.
