Description :

Are you an early career researcher looking for your first challenge? Do you have a background in neurosciences, plasticity or extracellular matrix? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

The perineuronal net (PNN) is an extracellular structure which wraps around the surface of neurons. Holes in the PNN correspond to the places where neuronal connections are made and are believed to hold the information of memory. In this project, we shall investigate the mechanism of hole formation in the PNN. The project is multidisciplinary and combines areas of neurosciences, extracellular matrix biology and biophysics.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work on the project co-supervised by Dr Jessica Kwok (on extracellular matrix and neurosciences) and Dr Ralf Richter (extracellular matrix and biophysics). You will assist the Research Fellow and PhD students in the lab to pursue this interesting question. You should have a strong experience in extracellular matrix biology, protein analysis/chemical modification and neuroscience.

The University of Leeds and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family friendly policies. The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN (the national body that promotes gender equality in higher education), and the Faculty of Biological Sciences was reawarded a Bronze award in 2017.  We are proud to be an inclusive Faculty that values all staff, and are happy to consider job share applications and requests for flexible working arrangements from our employees. Our Athena SWAN webpage provides more information. http://www.fbs.leeds.ac.uk/equality-and-diversity/athena-swan/
