Description :

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated clinician looking to gain experience in clinical research? Do you have an interest in Inflammatory Arthritis research? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic clinician to work with world-leading musculoskeletal researchers at the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine.

The Doris Overend Throup Memorial Scholarship Fellow is key to the success of research projects in immunotherapies.  Responsible to Professor Paul Emery (Section head), you will continue and develop clinical research in pre-clinical disease and biological therapies in inflammatory arthritis and manage these patient cohorts. You will work with Prof Emery to agree and implement clear priorities for biological therapy research through management of research projects, developing service requirements, and liaison with research support staff. The post requires working with key team members across Institute and you will be integral to the success of the wider portfolio of research projects in RA translational research.

You will be medically qualified and have completed core medical training or equivalent and have clinical experience in rheumatology. You will have current GMC registration and have passed Member of the Royal College of Physicians examination if UK qualified. You will have previous experience working within a research setting as well as some clinical experience in a Rheumatology field.

This post is available immediately for a fixed term of one year and will be based at Chapel Allerton Hospital. As the Doris Overend Throup Memorial Scholarship Fellow you will be encouraged to register for and complete a higher degree at the University of Leeds.

You are expected to work on the day-to-day co-ordination of the research portfolio. You will undertake investigator-initiated projects as well as acting as the sub-investigator in external clinical trials (with Section Head/other Senior Lecturer/Consultant as principal investigator). You will co-ordinate the maintenance of clinical databases for this patient population. You will also participate in clinical activities directly related to inflammatory arthritis and connective tissue diseases that could contribute to fulfilling requirements for specialist training in Rheumatology, if appropriate for the successful candidate. You will be required to attend and participate in research presentations, journal reviews and external speaker meetings, which are held regularly at Chapel Allerton Hospital.
