HUU is a unique environment - we are a charity with a great team made up of permanent staff supporting our student staff and volunteers to provide our members (the students of the University of Hull) with opportunities to create change, gain new skills and experiences, access help and support when needed, make friends, earn a crust, explore a new city and most importantly – have a great time!

HUU is run by students who have been elected by their fellow students. These Student Officers listen to the problems students face individually or as groups and campaign for improvements – their aim is to ensure students studying at the University of Hull gain valuable life skills as well as the best education possible

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Membership Services team to co-ordinate the implementation and development of student voice activities particularly HUU’s ‘Your Ideas Scheme’, support for specific representation groups (for example liberation groups) and our programme of face to face engagement with students. You will also contribute to the training and ongoing support for elected part-time officers and other students attending Union Council meetings. Some evening work will be required during semester time.

This is a 12 months fixed term part-time role (0.8fte)

Reports to: Student Voice Manager

Job Objective: Responsible for the overall implementation and development of HUU’s student-led campaigns and democratic activities as part of the student voice team.

Main Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Student Voice Manager, and working as part of the Student Voice and Opportunities team within HUU Membership Services, the main task of the post is to co-ordinate the implementation and development of student voice activities particularly HUU’s ‘Your Ideas Scheme’, support for specific representation groups (for example liberation groups), and support for student-led campaigns.

The post holder will contribute to the training and ongoing support for elected part-time officers and will work closely with the Student Voice Manager to administer and promote opportunities for students to participate in democratic processes, particularly the annual elections of full-time and part-time Officers and Union Council, a key policy-setting and decision-making body in the Students’ Union. This will involve the need for some evening working during term-time. The post holder has a key role to play in working with both elected student representatives and key stakeholders to raise the profile of the student voice.

The main responsibilities include:

Working with elected officers, staff and student volunteers to promote participation in, and the development and evaluation of, HUU’s student voice activities.Ensuring that HUU’s student voice activities are implemented and developed in a manner that is accessible, inclusive and meets the needs of all interested students.Ensuring that student volunteers and elected representatives are supported, and receive training relevant to their activities especially in the area of student and officer-led campaigns. Where appropriate delivering training for volunteers and elected representatives.Co-ordinating the external speaker programme, including record-keeping, liaising with colleagues and students, and ensuring that all bookings adhere to HUU’s External Speaker policy Implementing and promoting the ‘Your Ideas’ scheme, working closely with elected officers, staff and students to ensure that progress on projects is maintained and communicated to the wider student body.Co-ordinating meeting papers and supporting part-time officers with formal processes and procedures at Union Council meetings (six evening meetings per year)Working closely with the Student Voice Manager to promote and administer twice-yearly student elections, to include face-to-face engagement and the provision of one-to-one and group information and support to interested students.Establishing and maintaining relationships with colleagues across HUU, the University and, where appropriate, external bodies to ensure the delivery of HUU’s student voice-focused activities.Undertaking a range of administrative tasks to ensure the development and delivery of HUU’s student voice activities (including maintaining records, drafting marketing materials and note taking).Maintaining an awareness of issues and practice in Students’ Unions in order to build on good practice and identify trends.Ensuring confidentiality at all times in the handling and dissemination of information and data.Carrying out all duties in line with HUU’s policies and in line with the organisation’s values.Carrying out any other duties as may be required from time to time under the overall scope of the role.
