Applications are sought from candidates with a track record of methodological statistics related to medicine. You should have a proven track record of publishing research work of international quality and demonstrate a clear potential for attracting research funding and research studentships.

This is an exciting time to join one of the largest and strongest Statistics groups in the UK, comprising 27 academic staff, 15 research associates and over 40 research students. In the 2014 UK research assessment (REF2014), Mathematical Sciences at Lancaster was ranked fifth overall and third for the impact of its research. The Statistics section provides a vibrant and stimulating environment, and plays a primary role in major research activities. The department is one of the key partners in Lancaster’s thriving Data Science Institute (www.lancaster.ac.uk/dsi), which has core themes focusing on health, environment and society.

The Medical and Pharmaceutical Statistics Research Unit (www.mps-research.com), which has been in operation for almost 25 years, undertakes collaborative research with the pharmaceutical industry and medical research institutes, and leads the EU-funded research training network IDEAS (www.ideas-itn.eu). The department host the EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistics and Operational Research in partnership with industry, STOR-i (www.stor-i.lancs.ac.uk) in collaboration with the Department of Management Science, and is a member of the ESRC North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (http://www.nwssdtp.ac.uk/). These activities build on flourishing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Statistics.

As part of this appointment, you have the unique opportunity to become Deputy Director of MPS. To co-lead the group successfully, 10% of your time will be earmarked for MPS-related activities, including research. All new lecturers with the department are provided with mentoring and support, and have a reduced teaching and administrative load for the first three years.
