Description :

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral research fellow within the research group of Dr Lee Johnson in the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham to develop the chemistry that underpins the Mg battery.  Interest in the Mg battery has intensified due to its potential to exceed the volumetric capacity of the lithium-ion battery.  The Mg electrode has almost twice the volumetric capacity of of metallic Li and a five-fold increase compared to today's graphite electrodes.  The battery could also provide cost and sustainability advantages over Li-ion due tot he natural abundance of Mg.

The successful candidate will work as part of the Energy SUPERSTORE Hub (based at GSK Carbon Neutral Laboratory, Jubilee Campus), which champions energy storage research within the UK and brings together leaders in the field, not only in the technologies themselves, but spanning the entire value chain, from manufacturing, integration, economics and policy.

Candidates must have (or almost completed) a PhD in Physical Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Materials Chemistry, or a related discipline, ideally with experience in the development of materials for electrochemical energy conversion and storage.  A track record in the development of theory and materials for batteries or advance electrochemical analysis is preferred.

This is a full-time, fixed term post and is available immediately for a period of twelve months.

The School values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity.  The School of Chemistry holds a Silver Athena SWAN Award in recognition of our commitment to advancing women's careers in science.  You can read more about what this means at http://www.athenaswan.org.uk/ and on our website http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/chemistry/about/athena-swan.aspx

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Lee Johnson, email: Lee.Johnson@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
