Systems Developer (Servers Storage) - Internal Applicants Only (MS6053)

Role Description
We have a challenging and rewarding role that has become available within the Computing Services department. This is an additional role within the Computing Services Servers and Storage team. The existing team of 5 is responsible for the development and maintenance of a wide range of IT services that support around 16,800 students and 3,300 staff across research, teaching and professional services.

Key Accountabilities
You will maintain and enhance current systems, providing expert systems administration and development skills.  You will contribute significantly to third-tier support processes, resolving problems, documenting root causes, and improving service levels.

Skills

Firm technical knowledge and significant expertise of server operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Debian/Ubuntu, and Oracle Solaris.Expertise at enterprise level of relevant virtualisation, storage and backup technologies.Knowledge of web-infrastructure systems such as Apache, and Tomcat.Skills in scripting languages such as powershell, php and perl would be desirable.The ability to deal with complex requests for upgrade and change around the relevant technologies.Knowledge of systems such as puppet to automate existing processes.
