Powertrains and Vehicle Research Centre (PVRC)

Instrumentation Senior Technician – Ford/Advance Propulsion Centre Project Dynamo

The Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre (PVRC) conducts theoretical, experimental and analytical research into powertrain systems. We are seeking an instrumentation technician to join our team and support our expanding experimental activities in engine, turbocharger and powertrain research. This project will be using a state of the art turbocharger gas stand and transient engine research facility to investigate the behaviour of novel turbocharger technology on the next generation of Ford gasoline engines. However, the successful candidate will be expected to provide support across the centre.

The successful candidate will provide technical support required for instrumentation and control of advanced prototype engine systems. They will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, commissioning and maintaining bespoke control systems and data acquisition systems. They will also be responsible for acquiring, storing and maintaining specialised instrumentation equipment.

This is exciting opportunity to join a growing research team and the successful candidate will be based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University but will be expected to interact closely with industrial engineers who may be seconded to the experimental facilities during the project.

Candidates should be self-motivated with good interpersonal skills required to work within a team of academics, researchers and technicians.

This post is full time and is being offered on a Fixed Term Contract basis, with an anticipated expiry date of 20 September 2020.
