Description :

Southampton Business School is in an exciting stage of development and has an ambitious quality driven strategy. This will see us strengthen our position as a world-class business school in research, education, innovation and enterprise.

As part of a world-renowned Russell Group University with a global reputation for academic excellence, positioned within the UK’s top 20 Universities, we offer a stimulating, challenging and dynamic working environment for all our staff. It is an exciting time to join the School, having recently secured AACSB accreditation as well as having AMBA recognition for our MBA, and we want to recruit an outstanding individual for a key teaching and research position in Project and Operations Management, who will help the growing Operations Management Group that forms part of Department of Decision Analytics and Risk (DAR) to play a crucial role in the School achieving its vision.

The Department of Decision Analytics and Risk, including Operations Management, brings together established specialisms within Southampton Business School with a strong track record in research. We combine excellence in management sciences, decision analysis, and operations management, working with many major international companies and educating future specialists across industry, commerce and the public sector. The Operations Management Group is less quantitative in its research focus than other DAR members – and is led by Professor Steve Brown who, until recently, was Editor in Chief for International Journal of Operations Management the leading European journal and in the top three in its field globally. Areas of interest include project management, operations strategy, service operations and a range of operations management areas including inventory and supply management.

The Department unites knowledge and experience across the critical components of decision analysis and their application to strategic, tactical and operational scenarios. Our members' areas of expertise include: business analytics that harnesses today’s big data and produces information and knowledge to inform decisions; risk analysis that provides assessment and quantification of risk and an understanding of risk behaviour; knowledge management and information systems that capture and distribute information and knowledge for their effective use; and management science that provides a range of tools for scenario analysis, forecasting, optimisation, operations planning and simulation.

The Department offers an inclusive platform for interdisciplinary and impactful research and teaching. A vibrant community of international PhD students is also fully integrated in the Department which provides supervision of doctoral theses and opportunities for further PGR development via the support of a high quality School PhD training programme.

We would like to hear from applicants with strong teaching interests and experience in Project and Operations Management. The successful candidate should have a PhD (or equivalent) with an established track record of high quality educational experience that demonstrates innovative teaching approaches to support School’s highly reputable UG, PG and PGR programmes.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Professor Steve Brown (Steve.Brown @soton.ac.uk).
