A fantastic opportunity to join the University of Southampton's Human Resources department. The Employee Relations Team Manager reports to the Head of Employee Relations and manages the Employee Relations case work team to provide a proactive, responsive and compliant advisory service; supporting with full case management on ER issues including absence, capability, disciplinary, grievance and redundancy. 

Key accountabilities: 

To be responsible for the development and delivery of a functional, long and short term customer focussed Employee Relations case management strategy for the University, and create plans that underpin thisTo be the University’s expert on employee relations case work, providing high level specialist advice and guidance on all employee relations matters, ensuring line managers are equipped to manage conflict and employee performanceTo provide leadership and coaching to ER Managers, ensuring the team is motivated, valued and confident to deliver in their rolesWork with colleagues within HR, Trade Unions and other stakeholders to ensure people management issues are addressed appropriately and in a timely manner following the University OrdinancesIdentify and flag areas which require attention or improvement, making recommendations to the HR Senior Leadership Team and relevant HR colleagues.  Use specialist knowledge to inform and participate in the subsequent design and implementation work on continuous improvement to ER policy and proceduresTake personal accountability for providing expert ER advice to colleagues and stakeholders across the University on complex employee relations cases, applying risk balance and mitigation where necessary to reach a successful conclusionEnsure that the Employee Relations service is compliant and aligned to appropriate Governance arrangements within the University and with Employment Law relevant to the country of employmentTo identify emerging trends and risks, then work with colleagues and stakeholders to create effective solutions and achieve improvements across all ER performance indicators to predict and manage future trends

Experience Required:

CIPD membership and either a postgraduate diploma in Personnel Management, or equivalent experienceIn depth up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and extensive experience of its practical application in the workplaceProven experience of successfully guiding senior stakeholders through the management of complex and contentious high profile employee relations issuesExperience of working with Trade UnionsAbility to judge severity of employment matters and make well-considered decisions to support the University’s challenges and aims.Experience of presenting papers and evidence in Employment Tribunal proceedings
