Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position in Molecular Cell Biology in the Faculty of Medicine, Human Development and Health Academic Unit.

The successful candidate will join the laboratory of Dr Gabrielle Wheway, who has an on-going programme of research into the genetics and cell biology of ciliopathies. The successful applicant will utilise molecular biology techniques to investigate the role of pre-mRNA splicing factors in retinitis pigmentosa.

You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a biological sciences subject, with skills in molecular biology techniques and evidence of independent research. In addition to technical knowledge and skills, you should have excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of delivering accurate, timely research tasks. Experience of human tissue culture and molecular biology techniques including molecular cloning, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, base editing, immunofluorescence staining and confocal microscopy are essential. Skills in bioinformatics, including protein structure analysis, would be an advantage. Additionally, expertise in Mammalian Development, Developmental Disease, Primary Cilia and Ciliopathies would be an advantage.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
