Urban Design plays a critical role in the shaping of the built environment to meet the needs of those who use it. We are seeking somebody with a passion for the subject, a proven ability to generate new knowledge, and the ability to use this to equip students with the knowledge and skills to succeed as the urban designers of the future. 

We believe that diverse teams will deliver the highest quality teaching, research and student experience. So, to achieve the Faculty of Engineering’s vision of being top ranked in all areas for Research and Knowledge Exchange, as well as Education and Student Experience, we are seeking applications from high quality people whose backgrounds, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team.

We are looking for someone who can:

provide evidence, from their personal experience and background, of their ability to collaborate with colleagues and/or students to deliver outcomes that would not be possible if they were working alonereflect on their personal experience and background to provide evidence of their ability to innovate in the generation of new knowledge related to the field of urban designprovide evidence of their ability to produce high quality research output related to the field of urban designfrom their personal experience and background, provide evidence of their ability to devise and sustain creative studio projects that allow students to demonstrate design excellence in the field of urban designprovide evidence, from their personal experience and background, of their ability to devise thought provoking lectures and seminars related to the field of urban design and deliver these to a high standardthrough their personal experience and background, show their ability to relate to and mentor students/employees who are increasingly ethnically and gender diverse.

They must be able to demonstrate that they can:

Generate new knowledge by:conducting original research, resulting in publications in nationally and internationally recognised peer reviewed journalsparticipating in meetings and conferences in order to disseminate research findings devising grant applications to external bodies to fund new researchWork within teaching quality assurance standards and procedures to plan and deliver high quality taught modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to enhance the Department’s reputation for excellence in teachingSupervise and examine undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students including projects, field trips or placementsDeliver pastoral care of students within a specified area, dealing with sensitive issues in liaison with the Senior Tutor and specialist servicesContribute to student recruitment, to secure student placements and to provide appropriate advice to others involved in this activity

This is a permanent full-time post, however job share arrangements may be considered.
