The Estates Directorate offers a range of services including Estates Management and Development, Maintenance, Car Parking, Cleaning, Portering and Security. The Directorate is responsible for a range of over 71 University buildings both academic and residential totalling over 150,000 square metres over a 108-acre site. Security sits within a multi-disciplinary team of Security and Portering services reporting to a Team Leader and managed overall by a Facilities and Security Manager.

The Security team work across the full Campus and student residences covering a range of buildings including offices, workshops, laboratories and lecture theatres. Duties include preventing all types of crime, patrolling the campus, staffing the control room and utilising CCTV to prevent and reduce crime, carrying out basic maintenance and cleaning services; supporting both the Portering team and wider Estates Directorate; ensuring buildings and property are secured, providing good customer care; car parking assistance and enforcement; helping to ensure efficiency of service and ensuring health and safety guidelines are met.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the Security duties are undertaken to the agreed timescales and standard. As a member of the Security Team, the post holder will help provide a full range of security services across the whole University, in order to ensure the safety of people, grounds, buildings and their contents. The ability to effectively manage potentially confrontational security situations is essential. The post involves working effectively with a diverse range of customers including appropriately referring vulnerable students for which mandatory training will be provided. The post holder may be required to work anywhere on the Campus.

The appointed person must be capable of covering a large area on foot including responding quickly to incidents and emergencies across the campus (minimum speed of 4.5km/h for a minimum duration of 15 minutes, by means of test).

The working pattern is Monday – Friday, spread across an early week and a late week, as follows:

Early: 05:15 - 13:40Late: 13:40 - 22:05

Flexibility with regards to hours of work to support business needs is required.
