As part of the University’s continued commitment to Counselling, and its growth and development we are looking for a highly motivated lecturer to join us in delivering our exciting undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and to contribute to our high-quality research profile. We have a well-established and popular set of programmes ranging from an introduction to Basic Counselling Skills 10 week course, a Certificate in Counselling, through to our BACP accredited Diplomas and MSc in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. We benefit from superb purpose-built facilities in a £30 million Science Centre, and we work across the region with a number of organisations and agencies.  Putting the students first is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to providing an excellent student experience through exciting and innovative programmes and research and practice informed teaching at every level. 

Applications are sought from enthusiastic, team-orientated, flexible individuals with excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and presenting skills.  The counselling team covers a range of theoretical approaches, practice and research interests in a team approach to teaching and learning. We are looking for a person with practice and/or teaching experience in integrated counselling and different therapy modalities. Courses are taught and assessed through a variety of interactive activities, including personal development groups; experience of group facilitation would be helpful in this part of the job.

As a member of a team teaching on professional counselling courses we are looking for someone currently in practice as a counsellor, therapist or supervisor, who is a member of a professional counselling body (e.g. BACP or UKCP), engaging in regular professional development in line with ethical guidelines of the professional organization.

Some recent experience of teaching and assessing in HE would be welcomed but is not essential. Some evening and weekend teaching (Occasional Saturday workshops, residential weekend annually) will be required within the role.

This role will be subject to a DBS check.
