As part of the University of Nottingham Apprenticeship Program, we are looking to recruit 2 apprentices to the University Dairy Farm which is based at Sutton Bonington in Leicestershire.

The successful candidates will work across the whole farm on a rotational basis gaining experience in three main areas, livestock, arable and administration.

You will work within our state of the art Dairy Centre, assisting senior staff in day to day routine tasks which will include working with the Dairy Cattle, Heifers and Calves, maintaining our livestock welfare standards, assisting with the livestock requirements and the needs of the Vet School and Agricultural Students, gaining experience working with automated feed and milking systems.

You will also spend some time working alongside the arable team, gaining experience in the growing, maintenance and harvesting of foraged and commercial crops.The Arable side of the business also has a small sheep herd which is used for student experience and projects and you will get the opportunity to work in this area.Finally, you will spend some time in the Farm Office learning about cross compliance (Red Tractor) and milk contract administrational duties, this will include how to run farm accounts and work out your farm enterprise gross margins.

This is an exciting role which will give someone a very well rounded agricultural experience.Day release at a local college will also form part of the apprenticeship.

Applicants should have, or be expected to achieve 5 GCSE’s or equivalent, which should include Maths and English.They must also satisfy the requirements for the Government’s Apprenticeship Scheme see: http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/.

These full-time roles are available from the start of October 2018 and will be offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months.Throughout the programme, support is provided by the University of Nottingham Professional Development Team and the successful candidates will be allocated a mentor within the Farm.During your time at the University, you will be able to take part in a wide range of University Activities.
