Description :

The School of English is seeking to appoint a Senior Learning Technologist to join an innovative new team developing web-based teaching internationally. This is a new role to progress thinking on and delivery of a large investment by the University in augmenting the teaching of new courses by web-based learning. The innovative project will draw on the latest learning technologies to re-imagine university teaching for the mid-21st century. Courses will be designed to put the student’s individual experience and requirements at the core of the programme, with material and guidance customised around them.

We are looking for an exceptional person with both technical knowledge and an understanding of digital pedagogy. They will be creative and forward-thinking, and will also have the skills and desire to implement ideas generated with the project team. Though based within the School of English, they will maintain strong links across the University, principally through the Libraries, Research and Learning Resources (LRLR) group, and Nottingham Global Online (NGO).

The person appointed will join a small project team of academic staff and administrative colleagues and the team’s initial task will be to design and create the course structure and elements for delivery. This will involve a familiarity with the possibilities of learning technologies, a creative sense of deciding what will work for the courses under construction, and a practical capacity for generating and maintaining that material. The project setup phase is intended to cover the first 5 years, during which time the person appointed will be expected to work primarily on the programme.

Given the level and scope of the new role, it is essential that the post holder is able to engage with academic colleagues and senior staff and act in a strategic advisory capacity, where required. Candidates should have a first degree (or equivalent) or have substantial relevant experience, as well as expert knowledge and demonstrable experience of Technology Enhanced Learning production tools (including graphic and audio-visual manipulation.)  Evidence of experience of e-learning learning methodologies and experience of mobile learning development are essential. Candidates should have proven communication, strategic planning, presentation skills and experience of working with academics in Higher Education to design and develop technology enhanced learning solutions.

This is a full-time, permanent post available from 1 October 2018 (or as soon as possible thereafter). Applications from internal candidates will be considered either on a permanent or secondment basis for a maximum period of 2 years. Please confirm your preference in your supporting statement on the application form.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates will be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

Candidates are also asked to provide a CV with their application.
