We are looking to appoint an Associate Professor in Psychiatry of Older Age, to undertake clinical and basic research in the specialty of psychiatry of old age, in line with the Academic Unit’s research strategy, to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to undertake leadership, management and engagement activities. This post is split between Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Southampton. The appointee would have honorary consultant psychiatrist status within the Trust. From October 2018 until September 2019, the appointee would be expected to work the equivalent of four days per week for the NHS and one day per week for the University. Once the first year of employment has ended, the appointee would be expected to work on a 50:50 basis, dividing their time equally between University and NHS activities. 

The post is for 5 days per week, and Permanent.

You will be working within the Faculty of Medicine which leads on innovative learning and discovery for better health across the lifecourse. The job

To undertake clinical and basic research in the specialty of psychiatry of old age, in line with the Academic Unit’s research strategy, to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to undertake leadership, management and engagement activities.

Key activities include:

Plan and coordinate a broad research programme and activity in an area of recognised excellence for the University.  Regular dissemination and explanation of findings through leading peer-reviewed publications, major conferences, or exhibiting work at other appropriate events.  Engage in external academic activities in accordance with the Academic Unit’s research strategy and which enhance the Academic Unit’s national/international research profileContribute to the development of teaching and learning activities of the Academic Unit.  Provide expert advice and subject leadership to other staff and students, including research supervision,Represent the Academic Unit/Faculty/University in the disciplinary community externally.
