Description :

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon with an enthusiasm for sharing their experience and knowledge with Veterinary Undergraduates. This fixed-term, part-time (0.4FTE) teaching fellow position is available from the 1st October 2018. The post holder will join the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and our supportive, multidisciplinary teaching team, who are dedicated to equipping the next generation of veterinarians to engage with the challenges of the 21st Century.

The role will involve actively contributing to the delivery of small animal associated teaching and assessment across the undergraduate curriculum, with a particular focus on practical, clinical skills teaching in fourth year. A key responsibility will be delivering the weekly neutering clinic training workshops for fourth year students (‘neutering clinic dry-run’), developing skills in surgery and anaesthesia, and preparing students in advance of spending two days at our neutering clinic.

The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding and experience of first opinion, small animal practice, including medicine, surgery and anaesthesia. A willingness to work flexibly and to adapt to teaching creatively in a range of different contexts is essential, alongside excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. The position acknowledges the need for continued personal development and has scope for both clinical involvement, training towards postgraduate qualifications in Veterinary Education and participation in research as appropriate.

The University of Surrey, School of Veterinary Medicine follows a distributed model for final year teaching and we are actively partnered with leading Small Animal Practices and local Research Institutes whose clinicians and scientists participate in teaching throughout the undergraduate curriculum. The School offers state of the art teaching facilities, including dedicated Clinical Skills Laboratories and fully-equipped ‘mock-practices’ for simulationtraining.
