This is an outstanding opportunity to join the new Centre for Cancer Sciences (CCS), an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary group of 35 academics working on cancer research and education. You will develop the research and teaching components of the CCS including the new BSc and MSci courses in Cancer Sciences.

We wish to appoint a scientist with outstanding potential within the fields of cancer bioinformatics, tumour microenvironment, cancer immunology, tumour angiogenesis, molecular pathology or tumour cell and molecular biology. The CCS includes groups with strong track records in tumour microenvironment (including tumour microvasculature), breast cancer, acute myeloid leukemia, prostate cancer, cancers of digestive system (colorectal, oesophageal, liver and bile duct cancer), children’s brain cancers, and melanoma.

Assistant Professor

You will be supported to build a research group, develop new concepts and principles and learn how to contribute to, design and gain support for research proposals from funding agencies. You will develop skills to devise, advise on and manage learning and research programmes, and will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the CCS via leadership, administrative, management and co-ordination of specific initiatives.

You must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area, and lead authorship of peer reviewed original publications giving evidence of a high international standing of those publications. Experience and demonstrated success in delivering teaching within an agreed quality framework, preferably in a research intensive higher education establishment, would be an advantage. You should have excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to those with limited knowledge as well as to peers, using a range of media.

Associate Professor

You have a national and growing international reputation and are research active in a relevant field. You will be expected to strengthen your research group, contribute to the development and delivery of the teaching portfolio and supervise Masters and PhD students. You will have the opportunity to participate in the organisation, management and strategic planning processes for the Division and the CCS. You will act as PI on major research projects, identifying opportunities for the development of new oportunities and collaborations, including internationally.

You must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area, and evidence of leading contributions to a substantial body of work of high quality publications. With excellent oral and written communication skills, you will be given the opportunity to demonstrate academic leadership in research and teaching, and the ability to inspire and mentor junior colleagues. You must have experience of delivering teaching within a defined quality framework and the ability to obtain and effectively manage research funding.

This permanent post is available immediately and will be offered on a full-time basis (36.25 hours per week) however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 18.12 hours per week).
