Applications are invited for the above post based at University Park. The successful candidate will provide administrative support across studies within the Smoking in Pregnancy Research Group including two NIHR Programmes for Applied Research and other major NIHR, CRUK and HTA-funded studies, including several randomised controlled trials, which will recruit participants from across the UK.

The successful candidate will work closely with the group’s Trial Managers and Research Administrator and other Research Administrative Assistants. They will be responsible for contacting research participants in a timely manner using variety of methods and may include screening potential participants for studies by telephone, making appointments, sending out information packs, production and distribution of postal questionnaires (using Mail Merge) and/or letters to study participants at appropriate times and tracking their return, contacting participants by telephone and email. It will also include contacting participants who do not respond to follow-up questionnaires and completing these by telephone where necessary, to ensure that loss of participants to follow up is minimised. They will maintain and update the study databases, spreadsheets and calendars.

Other administrative support will include data entry, arranging meetings, taking and circulating minutes, helping with publicity, and assisting with reports, as well as general office duties to ensure smooth day-to-day running of research studies.

Candidates must have good general education including Maths and English GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent), or a relevant vocational qualification (e.g. NVQ2 Administration with Secretarial Skills) or considerable equivalent experience of an office/administrative experience. They must have excellent interpersonal, organisational, and written and verbal communication skills, an excellent telephone manner, and good attention to detail. They must have successfully worked in a team and worked in a secretarial or administrative role. They must be a competent user of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook plus email/internet skills. They should preferably have experience of supporting research/clinical trials or of working in the NHS.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until the 2nd January 2020.The post is full time (36.25 hours per week), or part time (minimum of 60% whole time equivalent spread over 3 or more days) please specify preferred number of hours and working pattern. Job share arrangements will also be considered.
