Description :

Applications are invited for up to 2 researchers to conduct experimental research on two-phase flow in test facilities representative of aeroengine bearing chambers/gear boxes. The person(s) appointed will join the University of Nottingham’s Gas Turbines and Transmissions Research Centre (G2TRC) working on a range of projects the majority of which are for the Rolls Royce University Technology Centre (UTC) in Gas Turbine Transmission Systems. G2TRC comprises a team of around 50 researchers, academics, engineers, technicians and administrators. This well-established research group works has taken part in a number of EU and TSB/IUK funded research programs.

G2TRC is conducting exciting and leading research supporting the formulation of two-phase flow strategies for aero engine transmission systems, gear boxes, engine core and accessories. We have a number of ongoing and future research programs supporting future capability. The successful candidate(s) will work across a range of rigs, liaising closely with the engineering and technical team, determining the most appropriate data to collect along with the most applicable and appropriate methods of collecting and analysing data. For one of the roles previous experience with lasers and optical methods would be very advantageous. Publication of research outputs is important to us.It is anticipated that the appointed researcher(s) will have supervisory input into experimental PhD projects.

Candidates must have an appropriate degree, preferably Mechanical Engineering or similar and also a PhD (or near completion) or equivalent in engineering, ideally in a relevant area. It is anticipated that a major component of the PhD or post-doctoral experience will be in experimental fluids and highly advantageous if this includes 2-phase flow and/or highly rotating flow. The ability to work in a team, and interact professionally with industrial partners is essential. You will need to be able interact competently with academics, researchers, students, engineers and technicians within the team.

These full-time posts are offered on a fixed-term contract, one for a period of 18 months and one for a period of 24 months. Towards contract completion a contract extension review will be held. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Due to the nature of this post, all offers of employment will be subject to the appropriate level of security clearance and an independent verification of unspent convictions obtained by means of a Basic Disclosure Certificate obtained from Disclosure Scotland, or an overseas police check.
