The Departments of Biology & Biochemistry and Chemistry are two of the largest and most successful in the University and in the U.K. Underpinning the success of our teaching and research endeavours is the work of our laboratory assistants. 

We are currently recruiting for 2 Laboratory Assistant posts, which will be full time during term time. The Lab Assistants will join our Technical Team who provide teaching and research support for our students, academics and other staff. 

Lab Assistants in our team support both teaching and research activities. The range of duties for laboratory assistants can include assisting in the setting-up and clearing away of practical classes, collecting glassware and other laboratory materials for washing or sterilisation, preparing and supplying basic laboratory materials, laboratory housekeeping, autoclaving and the distribution of various materials and supplies across the departments. 

Lab Assistants also contribute to the smooth running of the departments’ communal research facilities including the autoclaves, wash–up facilities, glasshouses, waste stores, solvent delivery and organism facilities.  It is also part of the Lab Assistant role to assist with general laboratory support tasks, laboratory set-ups, laboratory clear-outs, PAT testing, basic Health and Safety, equipment set-up and supporting staff in their research laboratories. 

Full training will be provided in all aspects of the post. An interest in Science is essential. 

One role is full time for 42 weeks and the other is full time for 37.5 weeks.
