This is an exciting opportunity to join the University of Surrey’s Researcher Development Team, at the core University’s growing Doctoral College. Supporting the University’s ambitious new research strategy, this team supports researchers across all stages and disciplines, enabling them to excel in their research and to succeed in their future career ambitions (either within or outside of academia) through the provision of a wide range of teaching/training sessions as well as events, mentoring, employability enhancing opportunities, and pastoral support (https://www.surrey.ac.uk/researcher-development-programme).

We are advertising 1 FTE Researcher Training Officer post to contribute to and expand our current training and development programme. Some flexibility, in working patterns and even working hours, such as a 0.8FTE, may be considered if the candidate is a good fit for the post and the team. Therefore, we welcome applications from people desiring a variety of working patterns.

This post will be part of a team of training officers, working collaboratively to design and deliver face-to-face and online training, as well as provide one-to-one support for the University’s researcher community, inclusive of postgraduate researchers, early career researches and doctoral supervisors.  Strong candidates will demonstrate a passion for educating and supporting the professional development of researchers, and a desire to create new and innovate teaching materials. Furthermore, candidates will have a clear understanding of challenges facing researchers at both doctoral researcher and early career researcher stages.

This role will also involve working closely with researchers and academics across the University and with national bodies (Vitae, RCUK, UKCGE) to ensure the content and quality of the provision meets our researcher’s needs, as well as national standards.  Therefore, we are looking for creative people with excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills as well as the ability to easily engage with a range of people to form strong working relationships.

We are looking for candidates who have knowledge and understanding of research degrees, post-doctoral research and research processes. Experience of designing and delivering training to cover the competencies outlined in the “Researcher Development Framework” is desirable.
