Description :

The University of Hull is driven by a strong commitment to delivering excellent research, undergraduate and postgraduate education and a fantastic student experience. The University has an international outlook, global reach, and plays an important place-based regional role. There continues to be significant investment in the single-site campus, which ranks among the finest in the UK and enjoys a particularly rich cultural offer. Providing an exceptional student experience, underpinned by intellectual endeavour, discovery and achievement, is key to ensuring that our students emerge with the enriched skills and knowledge to meaningfully contribute to the global society and economy at the highest levels. The new facilities reflect contemporary professional environments, helping to ensure that our students are successful in securing graduate-level employment. The University is evolving to meet the needs of local, national and international students, collaborators, and external partners. Under the leadership of the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Susan Lea, the University is entering a period of exciting strategic change. To strengthen its leadership, the University now wishes to appoint a new Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Cultures and Education, who will be a full member of the University Leadership Team.

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Cultures and Education will take over leadership of a Faculty that generates £33m in income and comprises three main subject groupings: Arts; Education and Social Sciences; and Histories, Languages and Cultures. The post holder will capitalise on the strengths of the Faculty, raise standards in teaching and research, and improve the quality of the student experience. A key priority will be to improve the University’s external presence and profile in relevant areas of activity, in the region and beyond. The post holder will be expected to unite Faculty, staff and students behind a shared vision, which is committed to delivering a leading-edge student experience, firmly connected to an ambitious research and enterprise culture. Our facilities are truly superb and are supported by vibrant arts and cultural activities. These build upon the University’s leading contribution to Hull City of Culture and help to define our unique and distinctive campus experience.  We are seeking someone who possesses developed leadership skills and is able to demonstrate an ability to effectively contribute to significant teaching, learning and research change environments. The successful candidate will have much to build on.

The role reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor. Candidates should be academic leaders, ideally of professorial standing, who will bring a collegiate, enthusiastic and team approach to the role. This is an exceptional opportunity to make a significant and collaborative contribution to the University Leadership Team.
