Description :

Join a unique British University in China. Be part of a friendly, dynamic service.

The University of Nottingham’s strong links with China resulted in it becoming the first foreign university to establish an independent campus, under new legislation passed in China in 2003.

The University Counselling Service has been in operation since 2009 and is a professional, confidential and free counselling service well used by the University community including domestic Chinese students, international students from all over the world, and Chinese and international academic and administrative staff. Counselling is provided in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Since the 2017/18 academic year, the Counselling Service has been part of a broader Wellbeing Service which also includes Disability Support and Health Promotion.

The University Counselling Service works within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework. Chinese government guidance and mental health legislation is also taken into account in the service provision.

Candidates must have completed a Masters level training or above in counselling/psychotherapy and have a minimum of 6 years supervised post-qualification experience in counselling/psychotherapy. Candidates must have obtained BACP accreditation/UKCP registration or the equivalent licensure in their country of qualification or practice.

The successful candidate will work under the leadership of the Head of Counselling and Wellbeing who is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with over 40 years’ experience. The majority of the work will be short-term (up to 6 sessions) individual counselling. The candidate will also be expected to conduct assessments and to offer longer term therapy to a small number of clients. The candidate needs to demonstrate the ability to tailor their therapeutic approach to a wide range of presenting problems and to the university context. Involvement in the delivery of psycho-educational groups, staff training and research, and in the development of new initiatives to meet emerging client need, is expected. The candidate will also deputise for the Head of Service on occasion. This an English-speaking post but candidates should demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in working with socially and culturally diverse client groups. Experience of working in a university setting is highly desirable.

Salary will be within the range of RMB410,256-RMB475,598 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  An attractive package including accommodation allowance, flights and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of up to 3 years, starting as soon as possible after 1 February 2019. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
