Senior Laboratory Technician -Research (075318)

We are looking to recruit a Senior Laboratory Technician to support the Oncology Research Laboratories within the Department of Clinical & Experimental Medicine; working within a small team of technicians under the direction of the Research Lab Manager.

This post will be based in the Leggett building and the key areas of responsibility for the team are; cell/molecular biology lab support (including tissue culture, protein detection, QPCR and FACS), ensuring safe working conditions are adhered to, training/induction of lab users and general troubleshooting. The team are also responsible for the over-seeing the safe and efficient running of the chemical waste disposal route, for multiple departments.

The primary focus of this job role is to support the research lab manager in delivering safe, effective lab management of a designated set of laboratories within the department. The successful candidate will be directly involved in delivering training to lab users, monitoring and advising on best practice and working alongside researchers within the labs; supporting and contributing to their research activities.

The ideal candidate for this post will be an experienced technician with a wide range of molecular biology related technical expertise and a strong understanding of laboratory health & safety. Adhering to current health and safety legislation, and best practice at all times, you will be very well organised, practical and diligent. You will also be a strong communicator and prepared to work flexibly. Experience of working in busy, multi-discipline laboratories would also be advantageous.

You will work closely with students, academics and members of the wider Faculty technical team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the laboratories and associated services across the School. You will also be required to liaise with external companies, to place orders and book engineers.
