The core tasks of the Dean are:

To develop, implement and enhance the faculty's strategy in the field of teaching, research and valorisation, in accordance with the university's strategy:

continued promotion of excellence in research and agenda setting in research, in accordance with the research strategy of the university and the faculty and the multidisciplinary priorities identified, as well as the relevant partnerships (national and international, public and private); create impact and outreach also with exploiting the unique character of the faculty where both natural and social sciences are present; with a strong sense of the demand from societal and scientific point of view: continued strengthening of undergraduate and graduate education in accordance with the faculty and university strategy; enhancement of the faculty's international profile in teaching and research; responsibility for the design and realisation of impact and valorisation in education and research; continued consolidation of the faculty's financial position, in particular by ensuring the continued enhancement of earning capacity and perform appropriate risk-management; enhancement of diversity in staff and student body; contribution to and implementation of university-wide programmes and projects.

To create momentum and internal cohesion:

ensuring cooperation, synergy and liaison within and among the various and complementary departments of the faculty; creating a culture of teamwork, trust and liability with the ambition to develop from a situation with a collection of very strong individual outputs and disciplinary expertise to a collective synergetic outcome; foster a culture with more focus on (academic) leadership and an organization where efficiency and professionalism are common; creating a management and communication structure with transparent authority and responsibility; embark on innovative partnerships with internal and external parties, with due consideration of the changing ways in which research is funded; ensuring good relations with the faculty's employee and student participation bodies; encourage and facilitate new, ambitious initiatives in the faculty in line with the agreed strategic plans; develop and utilise existing potential, attract new potential, ensure diverse population of staff and students in gender and origin.
