Description :

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in chemical biology in its broadest sense? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive universities?

As Research Fellow in Chemical Biology you will join an EPSRC-funded team focused on developing, validating and then exploiting new tools for discovering inhibitors of protein-protein interactions (PPIs).

The Perturbation of Protein-Protein Interactions (PoPPI) project is a major £3.4 million five-year collaborative research programme led by Professor Andy Wilson, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), and bringing together the University of Leeds, the University of Bristol, the Northern Institute of Cancer Research (Newcastle University) and drug discovery organisations, AstraZeneca and Domainex. This large and diverse programme focuses on developing, validating and exploiting new tools to discover inhibitors of PPIs.

In this role, you will assist the Investigators in realising the vision for PoPPI by focussing on the design and synthesis of small-molecule and peptidomimetic chemical probes for disease relevant PPIs. Recent significant outputs of the research include the development of coiled-coils as inhibitors of α-helix mediated PPIs see: Chem. Sci., 2018, DOI:10.1039/C8SC02643B; this role will centre upon extending these and related concepts to the discovery of small molecule and peptidomimetic inhibitors of α-helix and β-strand mediated mediated PPIs.

This role is being advertised alongside a Research Fellow position in Synthesis and Chemical Biology MAPCH1103 at the University of Leeds, and a Research Fellow position in Chemo/Bioinformatics at the University of Bristol.
