An exciting opportunity has become available for a software engineer to design and develop a fully integrated paperless real-time traceability system for food production from farm to fork. This position is a 36 month fixed term contract, with a £2k per annum dedicated training budget tailored towards your personal development and could lead to a full-time position within this dynamic innovative company.

This post has been created as a result of an innovative Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Olympus Automation Ltd (OAL). (www.oalgroup.com) and the National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) in the College of Science at the University of Lincoln (www.lincoln.ac.uk/home/holbeach).

OAL Connected, a key department within OAL, provides market-leading label and date code verification systems installed on over 1,100 packing lines in the UK and overseas, ensuring full compliance with retailer’s codes of practice. Once protected, food manufacturers can achieve fast payback using the OAL Connected modules to add OEE productivity measurement, connectivity to line equipment, QA checking and paperless recording.

The National Centre for Food Manufacturing[JB1], the agri-tech department of the University of Lincoln, is committed to helping the sector innovate. They work with employers and partners towards this goal, aided by outstanding specialist facilities, a food factory, cutting-edge automation and partnerships with leading equipment suppliers.

The Agri-Tech Software Development Engineer will be based at OAL’s Main Works site in Peterborough and be subject to its employment practices and conditions of work. The successful candidate will be supervised by OAL and the College of Science at the University of Lincoln.

The role

We are looking to recruit an engineer with a strong degree in Computer Science or an IT related discipline with an emphasis on programming to undertake and manage this 36 month Knowledge Transfer Partnership project which has the overall aim to design and develop a fully integrated paperless real-time traceability system for food production from farm to fork. Programming experience in SQL database and C#.NET programming languages is highly desirable. Professional experience is not necessary. However, knowledge of the food manufacturing industry would be preferable.

To be successful in this role you will have:

A BSc Higher Degree in Computer Science or IT related subject with an emphasis on programmingKnowledge of the following programming languages C#.Net, SQL and VB6Experience of integrating multiple programming languagesA full UK driving licence and access to vehicle / own transport – travel to partner sites in rural areas throughout the UK will be a key element of this roleProfessional experience in the food industry is highly desirable, but not essential
