We seek a Technician to work on the project “The contribution of plasticity to adaptive divergence: domestication as a model”. The NERC/BBSRC co-funded project provides support for 2 years from 7th January 2019 to work with Dr Mark Chapman in the Ecology and Evolution group at the University of Southampton (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/biosci/about/staff/mc1c12.page), co-supervised by Dr Tom Ezard in Ocean and Earth Science (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/oes/about/staff/te1e12.page).

You will have skills equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, or NVQ3 with proven work experience acquired in relevant technical support roles and job-related training. A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Plant Science, or a similar discipline, or an equivalent qualification, would be highly desirable. A general interest in evolutionary biology is required. You must be a good team worker, an excellent communicator and have experience with standard office computer systems including word-processing and spreadsheets. Experience working with plants and/or in a molecular biology laboratory setting are highly desirable.

Your role is to provide dedicated project support in the laboratory and greenhouses for the project team. In addition you will be carry out day-to-day maintenance activities, oversee ordering for the lab, and help organise outreach events. You will be encouraged to learn laboratory and computational techniques and pursue courses to enable your personal development. The active role you will play offers excellent potential for contributing to journal articles.
