The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath is undertaking a concerted effort to maintain and extend its strength in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing, and seeks to make two appointments in these areas. We welcome applicants at all career stages, either building on or extending existing departmental strengths.  

Salary:
Professor: Competitive Salary
Senior Lecturer/Reader: £50,132 rising to £58,089
Lecturer: £40,792 rising to £48,677

The Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing group at Bath has for many years held an excellent international research reputation. Thanks to recent periods of growth, its interests now include: the numerical analysis of PDEs, ODEs and dynamical systems, numerical linear algebra, stochastic differential equations, fast solvers and HPC implementations, uncertainty quantification, high dimensional problems, network science, inverse problems and compressed sensing. The group is highly engaged in collaboration with a range of companies and public bodies who regularly support its research. 

Successful applicants will benefit from working in a vibrant research-oriented department with over 70 faculty, with a strong culture of postgraduate research, bolstered by the Department’s EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics, in which the Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing group is highly engaged. 

Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and provides for a high quality of life, with good transport links to the rest of the UK and fast connections to London.

Applicants for a full Professor position must have a strong research vision, and international reputation. You should possess an excellent track record of publications and research grant acquisition, commensurate to your stage of career, and should have a keen interest in pursuing excellence in teaching and in supervising graduate students. Additional key attributes for appointment are strategic leadership abilities and the ability to influence and shape the output and success of the Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing group at Bath and also contribute to the strategic development of the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

A successful applicant for Lecturer will have shown exceptional potential for achieving independent research of international standing. At the Senior Lecturer level (equivalent to Assistant Professor) you will have an excellent track record of research of international standing. At Reader level you will have an outstanding track record of independent research of international standing and will possess research leadership capability.
