Applications are invited for the post of General Technician in Biology and Microscopy in the Material and Chemical Characterisation Facility (MC2). MC2 includes over 50 instruments encompassing mass spectrometry, NMR, X-ray diffraction, thermal, surface and elemental analysis, electron microscopy and bio-imaging. Our team operate and maintain the instrument base, train and support users, arrange lectures and courses on all of our techniques, and provide a consultancy service to private companies and other Universities requiring use of our equipment. This role will be particularly involved in the support for a variety of complex microscopes (SEM, TEM, CLSM, AFM, Raman, High Content) and analytical instruments (FTIR, FACs, EDX). The post holder will provide general laboratory support and instrument maintenance, as well as help with sample preparation (materials and biologicals) and data analysis on these instruments.

Applicants should have significant experience in lab work, including health and safety, and at least a basic knowledge of a range of biological sample prep and microscopy techniques, ideally with some experience of maintaining electronic and/or vacuum equipment. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential. Duties will include interactions with University staff and students at all levels, so good communication and IT skills is essential.
