Background

The role & key responsibilities

You will be part of a 4 strong team within the FP&A function reporting into the Head of Financial Analytics. The focus of the team is to provide insightful, value added analysis to key stakeholders, thereby directly impacting the University’s financial sustainability.

Responsible for analysing, reporting and presenting capital management information, ensuring the accuracy and robustness of all information. Presenting detailed analysis in creative ways to explain key University activities to both Finance and non-finance colleagues. Lead in the development and production of monthly management reporting, quarterly forecasts, annual budgets and ad hoc analysis, liaising with key stakeholders and challenging variances and trends where necessary. Provide decision-making analytical support on new opportunities, including the creation and review of business cases and associated due diligence work. Responsible for producing and presenting progress updates and annual regulatory reports to senior management committees for approval. Utilise experience and techniques to independently manage own workload including any projects that are either ongoing or transformational.

What you’ll need to succeed

You are likely to have a degree and either be qualified or part qualified and actively studying CIMA or a similar qualification. With substantial experience in a similar role within public or private sector, and have a strong knowledge of Excel. Higher education exposure would be a plus, but not a necessity.

It is essential that you have good communication skills and experience of building effective working relationships with people at all levels of the organisation as well as communicating complex financial information to non-finance colleagues / stakeholders. You are expected to have the necessary gravitas to lead on financial issues and maintain the collaborative reputation of the Finance function.

You should be of an engaging, inquisitive, articulate, and empathetic nature and be able to operate day to day without supervision.

You should have confidence within your own ability, and be skilled at planning and organising your time to ensure your work is delivered to a high standard within the required timescales. Your approach should be enthusiastic, proactive and flexible.
