We are currently looking for a suitable candidate for the role of Senior Technician (Metalwork and related fabrication processes) within the faculty of the Arts, Design and Media.
The role is focused on supporting students in the production of outcomes for a range of courses in the faculty, such as Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture and Product and Furniture Design of which there will be a focus on producing high quality work.
Whilst the role is centered on expertise in metal orientated processes, it is essential that the candidate is able to signpost or support students to use other materials and processes (plastics, wood, ceramics, etc) where appropriate.
A high-quality student experience is a top priority for the faculty and it is essential that the candidate is able to deliver an excellent workshop experience to all students, regardless of their differing demands. This will at times require managing workload and resources to accommodate the requests.
As a Senior Technician, the successful candidate will be comfortable working within a team as well as on their own initiative. You will be expected to carry out all tasks associated with the running of a facility of this kind, this will involve ordering of stock, booking appointments, training students, maintaining records, loaning equipment and ensuring Health and Safety is maintained and put into practice at all times.
This is a demanding role and the successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the Academics to be able to continuously deliver a high-quality experience to the students. A co-operative and flexible approach is essential and may require the occasional weekend working and assistance in setting up end of year shows within the faculty and potentially around the country.
The candidate should be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject (or equivalent level combination of qualifications, skills and experience) and be able to demonstrate significant practical experience of metal fabrication and furniture making.

MIG Welding
Brazing
Plasma cutting
Spot Welding
Metal manipulation and forming
Model making
Pipe work and frame making
Finishing processes
Desirable:
TIG Welding Qualification
COSHH qualification
IOSH qualification
