Description :

We are seeking to appoint a talented researcher on a 2 year fixed term contract with a background in psychology and qualitative research to join the Pain Research Lab, in the Department of Psychology at the University of Southampton. You will work closely with senior researchers and clinicians to deliver high quality clinical research. The role will involve facilitating the smooth running of PARAMOUNT a study aiming to develop a pain management educational tool for carers and healthcare professionals of infants, children and young people in out of hospital settings at the End-of-Life. PARAMOUNT is funded by Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital Charity and Sparks and is a collaborative project led by Southampton with colleagues in London, Oxford, Liverpool and Loughborough.  

You will be a confident and independent researcher with a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience and ideally have a good foundational knowledge in paediatric psychology. You will be able to demonstrate effective skills and experience in the appropriate selection of research design, data collection and analysis techniques (both qualitative and quantitative methods), and in clear dissemination of findings in good quality written reports and publications. You will also be able to demonstrate excellent oral communication and presentation skills, good attention to detail and an interest in clinically relevant research.

The work will be carried out under the supervision of Professor Christina Liossi and will involve: intervention planning through qualitative interviews and literature reviews (quantitative and qualitative synthesis, intervention component analysis) and behavioural analysis (using the behaviour change wheel); intervention design, specifically writing guiding principles and logic models, intervention development, i.e., developing content and building a prototype; and qualitative evaluation of the prototype. 

Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment with the University will be subject to a satisfactory disclosure report from the Disclosure and Barring Service at Enhanced level. 

The applicant will be based in Southampton, but will visit for data collection at participating clinical centres i.e., Great Ormond Street Hospital, Alder Hey Hospital, Helen House Hospice, and Rainbows Hospice.
