Senior Technician - Aerospace Engineering Research Centre (AERC)

The Department of Mechanical Engineering requires a highly skilled, adaptable and self- motivated Senior Technician / Skilled Machinist to provide technical support to the Aerospace Engineering Research Centre.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing technical advice and support to academic and research staff in the AERC’s workshops and laboratories and for the direct supervision of a laboratory technician. He/she will be proficient  in the safe operation and use of a variety of mechanical workshop machine tools together with fitting, assembly, welding, brazing, sheet metal and fabrication skills. He/she will also be responsible for giving technical advice and assistance with the design of and for the manufacture and maintenance of specialist rigs, equipment and components using the aforementioned equipment and skills. Proven experience of working with material testing equipment and systems is a pre-requisite, however, knowledge of vibration equipment and instrumentation would be an advantage.

Applicants should have served a recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship, possess a minimum of a City and Guilds qualification or equivalent and have substantial experience of working in an engineering or aerospace environment.

The post is offered on an open ended contract with a starting salary of £26,243 rising to £32,236 per annum by annual increments.
