Description :
Utrecht University and the University of Twente are looking for a PhD candidate on equine gait analysis (1.0 FTE). You will be working at the University of Twente.

The Paardensprong project is a multidisciplinary research project on on-site wireless monitoring of horses for advanced and real-time equine gait analysis. The project will bridge animal health care with sport and breeders in an all inclusive manner. It will allow veterinarians to diagnose their physical problems faster and better, the athletes to perform and present themselves and their horses better at races, and the breeders to breed better horses. The project will research accurate, fast, and efficient wireless horse monitoring systems to be used in daily practices. The main focus is on the combination of signal processing and embedded computing to enable on-body distributed multidimensional sensor data analysis system for horse monitoring.

Tasks
You will be responsible for research and development of a platform for wireless monitoring and data analysis of horses, in collaboration with the other team members of the project. Using data from sensors on the horses, signal processing, and machine learning techniques, you will work on feature extraction and classification of sensor data to be further used for gait analysis and motion indicators of horses.
