Description :

Following the development and implementation of a new Urban Futures Research Programme at the Department of Human Geography and Planning, Utrecht University is now looking to appoint a Chair in Urban Living and Mobilities.

A Chair is a full-time appointment including a management component. The appointee will be expected to spend 50% of time on research activities and 50% on teaching, however, this percentage is dependent on responsibilities and management tasks.

The Chair in Urban Living and Mobilities aims to develop innovative, new research lines for the Department focusing on the use of public urban spaces by various groups, defined by socio-economic profile, ethnicity or lifestyle, and the implications in terms of inclusion, social interaction, health or well-being. The chair will develop research along the full spectrum of urban living and mobilities, as this will deliver a unique opportunity to deliver highly relevant complementary insights to understand inclusion, health and well-being in urban spaces.

Research will take place in various domains, such as work, leisure, retail, tourism or sports. In line with the Urban Futures research programme, a dynamic, mobility-based approach of the above issue is preferred, building on traditional approaches such as time geography as well as on more recent relational approaches, such as the Mobility Turn. Both a quantitative as well as qualitative approach can be applied.
