Description :

The Department for Health is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics. We are looking for somebody to make a significant contribution to research and teaching and applications are particularly encouraged from people with an interest in Sports Biomechanics.  Strong applications in the wider musculoskeletal biomechanics fields such as multiscale biomechanics and sensorimotor control will also be considered.

Our Department is a vibrant community providing excellent opportunities for academic teaching and research. Our strengths as a Department include opportunities for interdisciplinary work and as such we take a collaborative approach within the Department, with other Departments within the University of Bath, and external partners and stakeholders.

Our research is organised around three themes: Lifelong Health and Wellbeing, Improving Human Function, and a Fair and Vibrant Society. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF2014), we returned staff across three Units of Assessment, ranking 5th (Sport & Exercise Science), 6th (Allied Health Professions) and 6th (Social Policy) in terms of research quality, with ~90% of our outputs rated as world-leading or internationally excellent (i.e. 3-4*).

We teach across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes related to sport, exercise and health. We were named Sports University of the Year by The Times for 2017/18 and our BSc Sports and Exercise Science programme is consistently ranked among the best in the country: currently ranked 2nd by both the Guardian league tables and Good University Guide for 2019.

Our department is proud of its achievements and our inclusive and supportive environment, something we strive to maintain. As such we particularly welcome applications from currently underrepresented groups and are delighted to hold an Athena SWAN Bronze award.

Please indicate in your application whether you wish to apply for the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position.

Initial enquiries should be directed to Dr Fiona Gillison (Head of Department for Health, Tel: +44 (0)1225 384387, email: f.b.gillison@bath.ac.uk) or Dr Polly McGuigan (Deputy Head of Department for Health, Tel: +44(0)1225 383541, email: m.p.mcguigan@bath.ac.uk).
