Associate Professor of Genome Dynamics (MED234918)

The University of Nottingham seeks applications for an Associate Professor in Genome Dynamics to lead a research programme in the School of Life Sciences, and to contribute to teaching on the undergraduate degrees delivered by the School. 

The successful applicant should have an established track record in an area related to DNA replication, recombination and repair, chromosome segregation, or genome architecture and engineering. They should also have a record of recent high-quality publications and hold at least one major research grant. 

The position will be within the Division of Infections, Immunity and Microbes in the School of Life Sciences. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a programme of research that complements existing work in the Division and the wider School. In particular, they should be open to collaborations with other members of the School working in the areas of DNA replication, recombination and host responses to DNA damage. 

The School of Life Sciences has excellent facilities for microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology, confocal and super-resolution microscopy, flow cytometry, Next Generation sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis of genome sequences and population structures. There are also significant strengths in cancer biology and links to medical facilities in the Queen's Medical Centre. 

The role holder will be expected to be principal investigator on major research projects in the field of genome dynamics, and to identify opportunities for the development of new research projects and collaborations within the School and wider University research framework, and outside of the University. 

The role holder will take responsibility for the design of courses/programmes to maintain high teaching standards and to contribute to the delivery and assessments in the Biology degree, with potential contributions to Biochemistry and Medical degrees. 

The role holder will have line management responsibilities including the responsibility for the professional development of junior colleagues, and will be expected to contribute to the overall administration of the School. 

Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent in a subject area relevant to Genome Dynamics and have extensive research and teaching experience with an established national and growing international reputation in the field of Genome Dynamics.
