We are looking for a skilled research technician to join the Glycoprotein Therapeutics Laboratory with Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton. This exciting new role requires someone with the skills necessary to express and purify glycoproteins. The group focuses on three main research areas; Cancer Therapeutics, Antibody Therapeutics and HIV immunogen design. 

We are looking for someone who has some experience of protein expression and purification with some basic molecular biology skills. The ideal candidate would have experience in protein expression in mammalian cells, be self-motivated and willing to provide a wide-range of general laboratory support to the group. A wide-range of backgrounds and experience will be considered as full training will be provided.

You will be working as part of a team in the Glycoprotein Therapeutics Laboratory, led by Prof. Max Crispin, which is predominantly focussed on developing anti-viral vaccines and new antibody-based therapies against cancer (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/biosci/about/staff/mdc1n17.page).

In the Glycoprotein Therapeutics Laboratory we exploit the glycan modifications of proteins in the design of vaccines candidates and glycoprotein-based therapeutics. We have a particular interest in vaccine design against the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and in the development of novel antibody-based cancer therapeutics. This involves understanding how glycans impact on protein and viral function, how they are structured, and how we they can be manipulated for therapeutic applications.

You will join a well-established group who are looking for someone who can contribute to its growing success by providing technical assistance in a proactive and collaborative way.

Part time alternative: Please note that this Technician will be responsible for the production of Glycoproteins which is a continual process once started. If part time candidates were considered they would need to work a minimum of a 4 day week (4 in a row).
