Description :

We are looking for a lecturer/senior lecturer in Pharmacy Practice who will teach and assess students on our undergraduate pharmacy programme (MPharm) and our related postgraduate programmes (OSPAP and MSc Clinical Pharmacy). Some teaching at foundation level may also be required.  You will be a qualified pharmacist holding an MPharm degree (or equivalent) and, preferably, a PhD in pharmacy practice, clinical pharmacy or a related field. Academic staff at Brighton support student learning through open, friendly, student-centred attitudes.  We are committed to educating students using a mixture of traditional and innovative teaching methods.  You will be joining a vibrant pharmacy teaching team which includes other practice-focussed staff working alongside experts in pharmaceutics, pharmacology, chemistry and disease biology.  Our MPharm and OSPAP programmes are accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

You will be expected to establish a research programme at Brighton to complement and enhance our existing work in the general area of pharmacy practice.  Laboratory space will be provided if required along with a start-up package and access to the School’s excellent research infrastructure. Collaborations with other academics within the University and the Brighton Sussex Medical School are encouraged.  You will be encouraged to build links with pharmacists in practice to develop clinical research collaborations.  The University has a variety of internal competitively awarded grants to support research and you will be provided with a research mentor to support your growth as a research-active academic.

We have an aspiration that all permanent staff in the School will be qualified in higher education teaching at a level equivalent to Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.  Staff without formal teaching qualifications will be expected to complete the University’s postgraduate certificate in higher education teaching or apply for an HEA fellowship via the portfolio route (depending on their prior teaching experience).

All staff participate in the administration of teaching and research within the School, for example through the leadership of modules and participation in committee work. The School will endeavour to keep your administrative load light in the first year to enable you to develop your teaching and research.

The School is proud to hold a Silver Athena SWAN award.  We welcome applications from suitably qualified individuals from groups currently under-represented on our staff.

Job-sharers are welcome to apply.
