The Faculty of Science and Engineering is one of the newest at the University but is expected to become one of the biggest as the University rolls out its detailed, long term plans. The University expects to triple its number of science and engineering students to over 3,000 within the next few years. The first crop of UNNC science and engineering students began to graduate in 2012 and Master of Science degrees will be offered in a range of subjects in the near future.


Applications are invited for the above post in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment (ABE), under the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The applicants are expected to have a desire for interdisciplinary teaching and research in the fields of architecture, building services, or architectural engineering, with a focus on studies associated to sustainable built environment. The successful candidate will be positioned in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment and the Center for Sustainable Energy Technologies, at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.


Candidates must hold a PhD degree in relevant disciplines of in architecture or architectural engineering, sustainable design, built environment, or urban design. It is desirable for the candidates to have a focus on sustainable built environment as well as environmental design or energy performance studies; and ideally from multi-disciplinary perspectives. Evidence of ability to teach and research across multiple modules of architecture design studio and environmental design/sustainable design is desirable. Experience of teaching and tutorial or design studio work at undergraduate and postgraduate level in an international English-speaking institution is also essential. It is expected that applicants will have a successful track record in research and publications in associated disciplines of the built environment. 


The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, participate in assessing and examining students, supervise PhD students, perform high quality research and obtain external research grants. The candidate is expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding as well as to peers, using high level skills and a range of media. The role holder should independently plan and implement general research programme and direction, and devise applications for new research funding as part of the strategies of the CSET and the Department.


Salary will be within the range of £36,261 - £48,677 per annum depending on qualifications and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.


The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with The University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of up to 5 years with effect from March 2019 or thereafter as soon as possible. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
