Job Details

This exciting post provides the opportunity to work on patient-level outcome measurement, as part of a major programme to implement and study outcome measures in routine clinical practice among palliative care providers across Yorkshire.

We are looking for an experienced nurse to deliver and/or lead training on outcome measures (such as Phase of Illness, Australia-modified Karnofsky Performance Scale, and the Integrated Palliative care Outcome Scale), and support implementation of outcome measures, with palliative care providers across Yorkshire. A range of hospices, community and hospital palliative care teams are already committed to or engaged with this work, and we aim to systematically help to improve care for those with cancer across Yorkshire.

The postholder will be part of the RESOLVE programme funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research and part of a dynamic team, including a Research Fellow, Research Assistant (Data), and an Administrator, with senior leadership by Professor Fliss Murtagh and Dr Mark Pearson (Senior Lecturer in Implementation Science).

The post will be based within the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre, which is part of Hull York Medical School, within the Faculty of Health Sciences at University of Hull and based on the University of Hull campus. As one of the few dedicated palliative care research centres in the UK, the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre provides excellent opportunities for career development in palliative care research. The post will involve some travel across Yorkshire, and provide good opportunities for local, regional and national networking.

The overall aim of the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre is to generate new knowledge systematically in five broad substantive areas: assessment and management of symptoms, addressing inequalities in access to palliative care and in patient and family care-givers outcomes, improving patient and care-giver outcomes including long term health outcomes, and optimising delivery of palliative and end of life care.

The post-holder will have experience in palliative care nursing, or a closely related area, and an active interest in the use of patient-level outcome measures to assess needs and measure the impact of care.

We value diversity and we are committed to recruiting and supporting staff and students from all sectors of society.  The Hull York Medical School holds a Silver Athena SWAN award.  We are committed to developing staff and actively encourage and support staff to take development opportunities.
