Market Researcher (SU201)

The University of Nottingham Students’ Union Insight department are recruiting a Market Researcher

There’s never been a more exciting time to join the Insight team at the Students’ Union. With opportunities that encompass designing, planning and delivering a wide range of creative research projects at a time of great positive change, and the chance to work with a team of up to 30 student members of staff – well what are you waiting for?! 

You’ll be working alongside student facing departments to not only better understand what students want, but also support colleagues to respond to your research findings. 

You will have experience in both qualitative and quantitative research, with a good understanding of how best to design research projects that fully unearth what is on the minds of our students and why. You will be someone with strong listening and interpretation skills, as well as having a natural ability to share research findings in an engaging, inspiring way with a range of stakeholders that will instigate positive change. 

Your degree level qualification, or equivalent experience, has helped you to understand consumer behaviour. You’re therefore confident in identifying what makes students tick – not only from a participation, engagement and marketing perspective, but also in terms of employment. You’ll work with up to 30 ‘Brand and Insight Ambassadors’, and therefore you’ll be comfortable upskilling these students in research techniques and guiding their output.

Salary Range: £21,000 - £23,000 pa depending on experience

Here at the University of Nottingham Students’ Union, we are a connected student community. A brilliant, diverse, ambitious community, 34,000 strong. We’re a diverse community from first-year undergraduates to research students, elected student Officers and staff, to volunteers, pioneers, and so much more. We are one of the largest Students’ Union in the country, connecting 34,000 student members to share, support and inspire each other while at University. As a registered charity we act as the recognised representative body of all students at the University, and every student is automatically a member free of charge. We provide a range of activities, events, campaigning, commercial and professional services that benefit and support students to get involved, find support and make change. 

We support students to share and voice their views on academic life and the wider University experience and have strong student leadership in fourteen full and part time elected student representatives. We provide an Advice service to help students with academic, housing and financial issues and are expanding our offer for welfare support. There is a diverse range of social, cultural, sporting and recreational activities and many opportunities for personal development.  We work with and support events and activities through the student committees of over 200 societies, 70 sports clubs, media groups, student halls and residents associations and other student communities and we facilitate over 4,000 volunteers to take part in community projects. Through our trading company, UNU Services Limited, we run two SPAR shops, a bar, coffee shop, clothing shop and a print shop. Our annual financial turnover, for the charity and trading company combined is in excess of £9m annually. 

We employ over two hundred staff across 17 commercial and membership services.  Around half of our staff are students who balance work with their studies and social lives. Other staff work full-time, some are part-time and some are required only during term-time and work for just part of the year.
