The Energy and Climate Change Division/Sustainable Energy Research Group (www.energy.soton.ac.uk) in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Southampton require a Research Fellow to work on interdisciplinary programmes encompassing high quality research and coordination in the field of offshore renewable energy, including modelling, turbine design, system analysis as well as economic modelling to support certain designs and sites.

The post is based at the University of Southampton but regular project-related travel in the UK and overseas (if needed) will be expected (often at short notice) together with attendance at national and international conferences and other events as appropriate. The projects are interdisciplinary, involving close collaboration with academic and non-academic partners and substantial exposure to the need of low carbon energy, policy and strategy.

The applicant should have a PhD or equivalent research experience in a demonstrably relevant subject area and experience of offshore renewable energy is essential. Candidates should be well organised, resourceful, have good people skills, a good command of English both written and spoken, and must be able to work well in a team environment.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

This post will be for 12 months in the first instance and the appointment will be made at the lower end of the scale.
