Description :

Applications are invited for the post of Research Fellow based in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, School of Biosciences and Medicine, under the supervision of Dr Barbara Fielding http://www.surrey.ac.uk/nutrition/People/barbara_fielding/and Dr Nicola Jackson https://www.surrey.ac.uk/school-biosciences-medicine/facilities/. The position is funded by the BBSRC and is available until the 31st December 2021.

This exciting opportunity is part of a research collaboration between the Universities of Surrey and Southampton, and involves research into the way that polyunsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis regulates immune function in humans. The position is an opportunity for someone with an interest in metabolism to develop skills in stable isotope tracer measurement in an internationally renowned laboratory. As such we are looking for someone with good laboratory skills, enthusiasm and ability to communicate well with the rest of the project team.

This position would suit someone with a background in human metabolism. Training can be provided in all laboratory techniques, but previous lab experience is essential. Experience in lipid extraction, gas chromatography or mass spectrometry would be desirable. The successful applicant will hold a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (although individuals near completion may be considered).

The Department of Nutritional Sciences won the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary prize for teaching and research in 2017, and we are ranked in the top 10 in the Guardian University Guide 2018.
